The Lithuanian government has announced a temporary one-month closure of the land border with Belarus. The decision is in effect until November 30, 2025, and aims to ensure security following a series of incidents involving meteorological and smuggling balloons in Lithuanian airspace.
For travelers using bus routes between Belarus and Lithuania, this means significant restrictions on cross-border traffic. The Šalčininkai–Benjakoni border crossing has been completely closed, while the Medininkai–Kamenny Log crossing will remain open only for selected groups, including diplomats and European Union citizens returning to Lithuania.
In practice, this means that some bus connections to and from Belarus have been suspended or rerouted via Poland and Latvia. This may result in longer travel times and limited ticket availability in the coming weeks.
Lithuanian and Polish authorities are currently working closely together to improve international traffic flow and minimize disruptions for passengers.
