Lublin will gain a modern metropolitan station serving bus, rail, and public transport in January. The investment, which will take almost three years to complete, is due to be officially opened on 12.01.2024. The Public Transport Authority has planned a special event for residents on this occasion.
Lublin Bus Station was built opposite the historic Lublin Główny railway station, between Dworcowa, Gazowa and Młyńska streets. It will replace the 1970s modernist bus station building on Tysiąclecia Avenue. Construction started in January 2021 and was completed in October 2023.
The new facility is designed as a ‘building within a building’. – is two cubicles surrounded by glass walls with a low heat transfer coefficient. The canopies, which extend far beyond the contours of the cubicles, are based on cup-shaped pillars reminiscent of tangled tree trunks. The project’s authors, architects from the Warsaw-based Tremend studio, focused on contrasting the two volumes: the historical one from 1877 and the contemporary one.
The total area of the station, including the roof and one underground storey, is 18,000 m². There is a car park on the underground floor. In turn, there are three rows of covered platforms for travellers next to the station. The total surface area of the project, including manoeuvring yards, is 19,000 m².
On the occasion of the station’s opening, ZTM is preparing a special event for the inhabitants of Lublin. On the first day, Friday 12.01.2024, a closed meeting is planned with the participation of the city authorities, parliamentarians, local government officials, representatives of the institutions implementing the project and guests. The station will be officially opened during the meeting with a symbolic ribbon cutting amid light flashes. However, an open day for residents will be held on the weekend of 13-14.01.2024. The programme includes events such as a children’s field game with prizes, animations and workshops for the youngest, guided tours of the station building, artistic performances and a show by the Magicians. The event will also feature state-of-the-art rolling stock demonstrations and the opportunity to take a ride in vintage vehicles. There will also be coffee, tea, food trucks, and the chance to take a souvenir photo against a giant frame.
The bilety.pl sales point will also open at Lublin’s Metropolitan Railway Station, another place in Poland where you can buy our tickets stationary.
The new Lublin Railway Station is intended to be a functional interchange and an attractive point on the city map. Its opening is an essential step towards Lublin’s sustainable development and improving its inhabitants’ quality of life. If you are from Lublin or will be in the area at the time, we invite you to celebrate together!
