FlixBus – from startup to transport giant

The story began in 2011 in Munich. Three students – Daniel Krauss, Jochen Engert, and André Schwämmlein – saw an opportunity in the liberalization of the German coach market. Their goal? To create a cheap, yet modern and comfortable alternative to trains. They succeeded.
In 2013, FlixBus launched its first three routes. Today, the company operates in over 40 countries on four continents, and its buses serve more than 3,000 cities. At the same time, the company is testing eco-friendly technologies – as early as 2018, FlixBus was the first to launch long-distance electric buses in France, and two years later began testing buses powered by solar panels, thus reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. In response to growing environmental awareness, FlixBus aims to achieve carbon neutrality in Europe by 2040, and globally by 2050.
