Weekend trips by bus (Riga – Latvia)

Warm summer days are in full swing and this provides for an excellent opportunity to go to the north, where the winter months do not allow you to fully discover the beauty of these countries. Throughout the holiday season, we will advise you on which destinations to choose so that you can see as much as possible during your holidays and pay as little as possible, using the price comparison website on bilety.pl. Riga is often referred to as the pearl of the Baltic countries and it is the capital of Latvia, located in the very center of the Baltic region, which makes it easy to get to from Poland. If you want to travel affordably, then it is worth buying a bus ticket to Riga from Białystok or Warsaw. We will show you the available connection options and what not to miss when visiting this magnificent city. For those looking to try the delicious Latvian cuisine,  we are sure to recommend restaurants and eating spots where it will be worth your while stopping for dinner.

Interestingly, in summer we have very long days at our disposal and therefore, we get to admire the sunset only after… 22, so we have plenty of time to explore Riga during the day. And if we want to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city and lie on the Baltic Sea, it is worth taking a train or bike to Jurmala, which was once part of the capital of Latvia. For those whose fancies have been tickled, we highly recommend booking your next trip by searching for a convenient connection on our website bilety.pl and booking your next bus tickets to Riga. The city turns out to be full of travel surprises that you should definitely treat yourself to. You will find some of them in the text below, and the rest you will surely discover on your own.

Accommodation

If possible, stay overnight in the Old Town, it will allow you to feel the atmosphere of this city. Of course, this calls for one to dig a little deeper into their pockets but this option provides for convenience and ample time for exploration. Nonetheless,  you can find much more affordable facilities outside the Old Town. We chose the intermediate option, i.e. Mosaic Hotel, located about 10 minutes on foot from the Old Town, and for a double room in the seasonal offer we will pay PLN 260.

What to see in Riga?

  1. Jurmala – we start unusually, because from a town theoretically located outside Riga this is our first option. Once this seaside resort was part of the city, now it is a place where residents relax on the Baltic Sea. Arriving by train costs only 2 euros and takes 40 minutes, but we definitely recommend coming here by bike. A bicycle path leads here from Riga.
  2. Old Town – a point so obvious that it might seem that it does not need to be mentioned, but the Vecrīga district, included in the UNESCO list, is so stunning that you must take a walk through every street. We especially suggest going there in the evening, where the lantern lights add to the beautiful atmosphere
  3. Panorama of the city – a beautiful view of Riga stretches from the tower of the Church of St. Peter. Although the entrance to the tower costs 6 euros, you can slightly inflate your holiday budget for these wonderful views.
  4. Bastejkalna Park – a charming place, full of greenery, where you can cool off, rent a boat or join an organized cruise, where at the beginning we sail through a narrow canal and then sail out onto the Daugava River.
  5. Tallinas Ielas Kvartals – an alternative place for lovers of street art, good parties and pubs. An interestingly arranged outdoor space, which may not be easy to find, but is definitely worth seeing.

Riga – where to eat?

  1. Ezitis Migla – is a chain of cafes and bars that can be found throughout the city. They are usually interestingly decorated and have atmospheric interiors. It’s worth taking a stroll and finding some of these establishments and spotting the peculiar differences.
  2. Central Market – worth visiting not only for culinary but also historical reasons. What can you try? At over 3,000 stations you will get a huge amount of pickled foods, bread and fish. Also try the national dish, herring with cottage cheese!
  3. Parunāsim kafe’teeka – advertised as the most romantic place in Riga, if you are traveling as a couple, see for yourself, even if you are traveling solo, the taste of coffee and cakes will certainly not disappoint but comfort you.

Is Riga the most colorful and interesting capital of the three Baltic countries? You’ll have to see it for yourself by booking a ticket to Riga on our website. This city will certainly not disappoint you, and if you like to participate in local events, you can always check what is currently happening on the LiveRiga website. We were enchanted by Riga – it is the perfect place to combine active sightseeing with relaxation on the beach. In addition, there are still no crowds of tourists here like in other European capitals. Visit the website bilety.pl for inspiration and, of course your affordable  bus tickets. We are excited and looking forward to share with you the next destination and this time we take you with us to Tallinn, of course, to finally decide which of these three capitals is the most beautiful although we understand beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.
