We have another interesting idea for a weekend bus trip. This city is located very close to the Polish border, so there’s no need to fly. Dresden, the capital of Saxony, can be reached by bus in just 4 hours!
It’s worth taking advantage of this location and visiting this city – in our guide, we’ll describe a few historic gems that we think are worth seeing, and we’ll share a few culinary spots. As you stroll through the city and admire its monuments, it’s worth remembering that it was completely destroyed during World War II, and what you see is largely a reconstruction.

🏨Dresden – where to stay?
Accommodation isn’t the cheapest in Dresden, especially very close to the city center. However, by booking early enough and a bit further from the center, you can find relatively affordable options.
a&o Dresden Hauptbahnhof – located 2 kilometers from the Old Town, but easily accessible by tram. A simple place, but reasonably priced – around 90 PLN per person. Perfect for budget travelers.
Dresden – what to see?
- Gläserne Manufaktur – a Volkswagen Group factory. Home of the VW ID electric car, where you can see the entire assembly process and even drive the electric car around the city.
- Großer Garten – the largest park in Dresden. Here, you can not only stroll through the gardens, but also visit the Botanical Garden and Zoo, and ride the Dresden Park Railway.
- The Dresden Residential Castle – and its gem, the Historic Green Vault – is one of the most magnificent art galleries, and although visiting it requires an additional ticket, we highly recommend it, while the castle tower offers a beautiful view of the city.
- Old Masters Gallery – here you’ll see Corregio’s famous painting, The Nativity. However, there are many more magnificent works, and a visit alone requires at least an hour.
- Brühl’s Terrace – be sure to take a stroll along the promenade along the Elbe River, then hop aboard an old-school steamboat that will take you up or down the river.
Dresden – where to eat?
- Alua Vegan Catering & Cafe – a great spot for vegetarians, located close to major attractions. Delicious sandwiches, desserts, and coffees. Keep in mind – this place closes at 4:00 PM, so it’s best for breakfast or lunch.
- Kexerei Confectionery – here we can try Dresden specialties, Stollen, and Eierschecke cake – delicious!
- Sophienkeller im Taschenbergpalais – if you want to try traditional German specialties, it’s worth checking out the Sächsische Quarkkäulchen – popular cottage cheese and potato pancakes.
