It is certainly a sin not to stay overnight in Toruń, and Barka Atena offers us extraordinary memories and accommodation on a ship. The mere possibility of moving to a ship from a previous era is a great adventure. What’s more, it’s a great location, because we are only 400 m away from the Old Town Square. It is an interesting alternative to typical hotels.

Toruń – what to see?

  1. Kepa Bazarowa – a nature reserve that is the greenest part of the city. There used to be a wooden bridge here, although only a platform remains, but from it you can admire a beautiful panorama of the city.
  2. Toruń Gingerbread Museum – here you will discover all the puzzles and secrets of this local specialty. Moreover, at every hour you can join workshops and prepare your own gingerbread. On Tuesdays, admission is free.
  3. Old Town and New Town Market Square – in the Middle Ages, the Old Town and the New Town of Toruń operated side by side. Around these main squares there are the most important monuments, great restaurants and museums.
  4. Sightseeing cruises on the Vistula River – organized by Toruń rafters. Faithful replicas of traditional Vistula boats are a great experience, as well as a lesson in the history of this profession. Cruises are organized several times a day – breakfast, sunset or night.
  5. Olenderski Ethnographic Park – located in Wielka Nieszawka, near Toruń. You can also get here by public transport from the city center. Here we can see what the cottages of the rich peasantry looked like from the beginning of the 20th century.

Toruń – where to eat?

  1. Zapiekanki u Eli – an iconic place on the map of Toruń, which has been operating for over 40 years. Delicious casseroles and hot dogs with mushrooms. The place itself still maintains the atmosphere of the old days.
  2. monka – the restaurant is located in an 18th-century baroque granary, and the menu includes the culinary traditions of Kujawy region. Flatbreads are baked on site and we can also delight our palate with dumplings with wild garlic pesto and various wines from Polish vineyards.
  3. PERS café club – everyone will find something for themselves here, from local beers to colorful orangeades, as well as breakfast sets. In addition, there are many events on weekends – DJ performances and flea markets.

With gingerbread in hand, we set off to discover the Gothic buildings of Toruń. We have the opportunity to travel into the world of astronomy in the footsteps of Nicolaus Copernicus, and go back in time to a village on the Vistula from the beginning of the 20th century.
