By bus to Santa Claus

Quite recently, from July 2023, you can travel from Poland to Finland by bus. Then a line was launched from Poland to Vaasa, a city in western Finland. Although the journey from Warsaw takes over 24 hours, the buses leave the Zachodnia Station full and the route is very popular. Flixbus is constantly expanding its offer and is now introducing new connections to Finland, and their buses will take us to 13 new towns. This is exciting news for both travelers and those looking for economical ways to discover new places. The greatest attraction and popularity will be the village of Santa Claus. Of course, all connections to Finland can be found on bilety.pl!

From Poland to Finland by bus

The northernmost stop on the new Filxbus network is the city of Rovaniemi. Just 8 km from this city there is the village of Santa Claus This is where the new line will lead, and passengers will get there directly from 4 Polish cities (Kraków, Kielce, Warsaw, Białystok). The tour is scheduled to start at the end of August, and tickets are already on sale. The carrier’s other new lines are:

  • Hamburg – Berlin – Warsaw – Helsinki – Joensuu (the connection is scheduled to launch on August 17)
  • Kraków – Warsaw – Helsinki – Rovaniemi (the line is scheduled to launch on August 31)
  • Vilnius – Riga – Helsinki – Tampere (starting from August 28)

Santa Claus’ Village

An alternative to buses has so far been train connections from the capital of Finland – Helsinki. However, their prices usually exceed 100 euros per ride and they were often sold out. In addition, you need to add a plane ticket from Poland, which in December costs about PLN 2,000 for a round-trip flight to Helsinki. There are no direct flights from Poland to Rovaniemi, so a bus trip to visit Santa Claus in the pre-Christmas period will certainly be unique and there will be many who decide to take the entire route, despite the long journey. The Warsaw – Rovaniemi connection is approximately 2,000 km. km, it will last about 33 hours, and prices start from about PLN 500 one way. Prices are, of course, more attractive now that Christmas is very far away, so if we want to save, it is worth starting to plan this trip now.

Winter attractions

Although a bit commercial, it’s hard to imagine a better direction for feeling the Christmas spirit. Contrary to appearances, this is the place not only for children, but there are plenty of adults here who want to travel back in time a bit, return to their childhood and fulfill their dream of meeting Santa Claus. The entrance to the village itself is free, but of course there are also additionally paid attractions, such as:

  • visit to a reindeer farm
  • visit to a husky farm
  • sledding tracks

Certainly, the most important attraction is the meeting with Santa Claus, which is free of charge, you just need to book such entry at the Elf’s place. Unfortunately, you cannot take photos during the meeting, they are taken by the Elves, and then you can buy such a photo.

Another attraction is the opportunity to symbolically cross the Arctic Circle. For an additional fee, you will receive proof of this achievement in the form of a certificate or passport stamp.

Flixbus’ expansion to Finland brings new opportunities for travelers. Finland, known for its picturesque landscapes, wonderful nature and charming cities, is now becoming more accessible to tourists from all over Europe. The planned inclusion of key cities in the offer, such as Helsinki, Tampere and Rovaniemi, is a bull’s-eye, and although most passengers will use short sections, there will certainly be those who decide to take the entire route, directly from Poland. A pre-Christmas hit will certainly be trips to Santa Claus’s village, which are becoming an alternative to combined trips, which are difficult to access during this period.
