Bratislava will especially appeal to travelers who avoid popular places. The capital of Slovakia, where we went, is definitely less noisy and crowded than the other two capitals located nearby. The city on the Danube is the only capital in the world, bordering two countries – Hungary and Austria. We are less than 70 km from Vienna and less than 200 km from Budapest. Bratislava – Krakow by bus
The best option seems to be leaving Bratislava at night and arriving in Krakow in the morning. A convenient option for both a weekend stay and a one-day trip:

A round-trip ticket from Krakow to Bratislava costs approximately PLN 160-180. Ticket prices increase as the departure date approaches and depend on the selected course. Contrary to opinions expressed on the Internet, it is not worth avoiding the capital of Slovakia. There may not be such spectacular monuments here as in Vienna or Budapest, but the Old Town itself is large and interesting enough that you can spend a few hours there, exploring its charms.
Accommodation
It is true that you can see the most important monuments in Bratislava in one day, but in our opinion you will feel a little dissatisfied. So let’s look for accommodation to also see the evening atmosphere of this city. Of course, it is best to stay somewhere near the Old Town. Contrary to appearances, prices are not particularly high in this part of the capital. We recommend Apartaments Historical Center – for 55 euros we have a well-equipped apartment, 5 minutes’ walk from the Old Town.
Bratislava – what to see?
- Bratislava Castle – a symbol of the capital, an ideal place for a viewpoint of Bratislava. You can walk around the castle and its gardens for free, but visiting the palace interior, where the Historical Museum is located, requires payment.
- Old Town – the heart of the old town is the Market Square (Hlavné námestie), with the historic town hall and its tower, but it is also worth getting lost in the various streets to discover their extraordinary beauty. We also recommend finding the Ćumil monument.
- SNP Bridge – the Slovak National Uprising Bridge with a characteristic tower and platform, also commonly called the UFO Tower. The point is definitely worth visiting, a beautiful view of the city, with a wonderful restaurant for the hungry and thirsty.
- Devin Castle – Devin used to be a separate village, and now it is a district of Bratislava. There is a beautifully situated castle with beautiful views of the Morava River flowing into the Danube. We leave you to think about the boat trip, which lasts about 1.5 hours.
- Danubiana Art Museum – located on a peninsula, surrounded by the waters of the Danube, here you will find works by artists from all over the world, and thanks to the glass walls, you can admire beautiful landscapes. Access by bus from the National Theater.
Bratislava – where to eat?
- Koliba Kamzik – here you will find regional delicacies, such as haluszki with homemade sausage or cream, and sweet ones include croissants stuffed with poppy seeds, or in a slightly Viennese style – strudel with poppy seeds or cherries.
- Flagship – according to a Slovak proverb, anyone who hasn’t been to this restaurant doesn’t know Bratislava. There was also a cinema in the place of the restaurant and this design has been preserved to this day. It also has its own brewery, so in addition to local dishes, we also have the chance to try Slovak beer.
- Five Points Bistro – of course, every trip and sightseeing must start with morning coffee, here you can drink a delicious latte and choose from a rich breakfast offer.
