100 years of Gdynia – a grand jubilee celebration
The year 2026 is a unique moment in the history of the Polish coast. On February 10, Gdynia celebrates the centenary of granting city rights, and the entire twelve months will be filled with a rich program of cultural, sporting, and artistic events. It is no coincidence that the Senate of the Republic of Poland established 2026 as the Year of the City of Gdynia. The jubilee is the perfect excuse to plan a winter or summer city break and see how the “city from the sea and dreams” celebrates its centenary.
The history of Gdynia is a story of determination and community. After Poland regained independence and access to the sea, a city and port were built in less than a decade, becoming a window to the world. Today, Gdynia is not just a point on the map, but a home, identity, and pride of successive generations of residents. As the city’s president Aleksandra Kosiorek emphasizes – this is a jubilee meant to be a shared experience for everyone, both residents and guests from all over Poland.
February 2026 – culmination of Gdynia’s 100th anniversary celebrations
The most intense month of the jubilee will be February 2026. The first events will already begin in January, including the Kashubian performance “WANOŻNICË” at the Musical Theatre (premiere on January 24). However, it is February that will bring the grandest spectacles.
